Stoke Gifford TKD
Stoke Gifford Taekwon-do was established in November 2000 by Miss Kerry Burridge with the assistance of Mr Mike Frost who at the time was a 1st Kup (Black Stripe) in Taekwon-do. He went on to achieve his 1st Dan black belt in 2001 and was days away from his 2nd Dan in 2003 when he was tragically killed in a motorbike accident. Although this was a huge blow, his memory lives on and has unified the club and made it much stronger.
The club has grown considerably over the years & now has more than 60 training members. The students range from age 4 to 50+ & is a even mixture of both male & female. Many of the students have trained hard & achieved the ultimate rank of black belt. The club has had a keen competitive nature with former instructor Miss Burridge achieving two world championship titles during her career. She had trained numerous students to National & International level with many achieving major titles. Several Stoke Gifford students have also achieved titles & medals at World & European Championships. The club looks on these achievements with pride & continues to teach & train all students to be the best that they can.
With 30 years of training and after suffering a serious illness Miss Burridge decided to retire in 2018 from actively teaching at the club. Stoke Gifford Taekwon-do is now run by a team of instructors and assistants, all of who have been taught by Miss Burridge for 10+ years.
Having trained and worked as a Fitness and Aerobics Instructor since leaving school, Miss White started Taekwon-Do on 6th September 2001, and opened the Westbury-on-Trym Taekwon-Do club 9 years to the day later!
In April 2015 Miss White Graded for 1st Degree Black Belt, 2nd Degree in April 2008. Then went on to achieve 3rd Degree in April 2010 with UK ITF, and 4th Degree in April 2015. In September 2015, she did an IIC course becoming an ITF International Instructor.
