Introduction

Taekwon-Do translated from Korean:

“TAE” literally means to jump, kick or smash with the foot, “KWON” means to punch or destroy with the hand or fist and “DO” means art, way or method.

Therefore Taekwon-Do means Foot–Hand–Way.

Philosophy

Bristol TKD believes that Taekwon-Do is much more than just kicking and punching. It is a way of life that promotes discipline, respect and self-confidence.

Moral Culture: “In a word, it is the endeavour and process of becoming an exemplary person such as Confucius (552-479 A.D.).” Condensed Encyclopaedia 2004.

Taekwon-Do Oath: “As a student of Taekwon-Do, I shall observe the Tenets of Taekwon-Do, I shall respect my Instructors and Seniors, I shall never misuse Taekwon-Do, I shall be a champion of freedom and justice and I shall build a more peaceful world.”

Aim

To help students understand and develop the values of the Tenets of Taekwon-Do: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control and Indomitable Spirit.

These are qualities and ideals that are important both inside the Dojang (training hall) and in everyday life.

With continuous practise, always striving to promote the ethos of Moral Culture, we are living by these principles, and therefore sharing with everyone some of the fantastic benefits Taekwon-Do has to offer.

Purpose

To provide students with the best possible training in a friendly environment, while maintaining the etiquette required.

Dedicated to helping the individual achieve their goal and reach their full potential.
